At Last, the Dining Hutch Reveal Has Come Along

Happy Monday! The dining hutch reveal is finally here. For those who have been following the blog for a while, you know that I have been working on this piece for quite some time now. I inherited a dining set in early February, and as they say, the best things come to those who wait.

This beauty took a lot of sweat equity. I removed the backing and mirrors and replaced them with bead board wall paneling. I recommend buying this from Home Depot because they will cut it to size for you right in the store. It is sold in 8' x 4' sheets, so unless you have a pickup truck, it will be tricky to get home. I also removed all the glass from the doors for a more rustic look.

For my first coat, I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey. On the second coat, I decided to do a wash of Old White. I will save all the details of washing for another post. It is a really cool effect.

It was finished off with a coat of Annie Sloan Clear Wax followed by a coat of Dark Wax on the detailing. I didn't really do any distressing with my sanding block because the washing technique and the wax distressed it enough for my liking.

It also had glass shelves that I painted with Old White to match the bead board backing.

The hardware had been switched out at some point but the previous owner saved the original hardware, which was such a blessing because it looks great painted. I am always trying to save a buck where I can.

So there she is in all her glory. I will be sharing more photos of the completed dining room soon. What do you think? Will you ever look at your grandma's hutch the same?
