One of my favorite things to do is show you how simple furniture flipping can truly be. So today, I’m going to be doing a furniture makeover with just FIVE products! Not only that, but the piece of furniture I have today is not even real wood, AND I accomplished it in under 6 hours.

I got a desk for free from my neighbor. It's an MDF particle board, and the finish on it is holding up really well. The first thing I’m going to do is remove the hardware to get ready for this quick five product makeover. This desk was also more of a vanity, but I’ll be removing the mirror because I think that will sell faster.

Before we get to it, here is the original desk/vanity!

Furniture Makeover Products:

The first item I used is, of course, my Dixie Belle White Lighting to clean the piece. It’s a TSP soap that is in powder for, so you can mix it up in a spray bottle or use a bucket. Use a rag and the solution to wipe back any of the dirt, grime, and dust on your furniture.

This step is SO important, so please don’t skip it!

After washing it down, get some clean water and a fresh rag to rinse off the residue.

Product #2: Surf Prep Rad Pads

Once the desk was dry, I grabbed product #2 … my fine sanding pad (220-grit)! The first thing I did with it was scuff off the pen and marker marks that I couldn’t get off with cleaning. If you have anything similar, you definitely want to get it off because it can show through the paint.

After that I went ahead and scuff sanded the entire piece to give my paint something to adhere to.

That process kicked up a lot of dust, so I got a damp rag to wipe it all back before painting.

Product #3: Silk Hampton Olive (All-in-One Paint)

Okay, item #3 for this furniture makeover is the star of the show … the paint!  I used my Silk all in one mineral paint in the color Hampton Olive. I’ve been dying to try this color because it’s so gorgeous in the container, and I’ve been waiting to get it on a piece of furniture.

I’ve used Silk before and love it because there is no need for primer or a top coat because it’s built in. That’s why I love this option for beginner-friendly projects.

Notes about Silk All-in-One:

  • Silk doesn’t like water, so don’t add any when painting with it. :)

  • It dries in 1-2 hours, so it’s great for quick furniture makeovers.

  • When painting multiple layers, keep that first one thin because it will help it stay smooth and level out.

  • This finish you’ll get is low reflective and eggshell finish.

  • It has good durability.

  • It is water, mildew and grease resistant.

  • It has UV protectant in it.

  • It cures completely after 30 days.

Product #4: Scarlet Brush

Product #4 is my brush. This is one that I haven’t shared here yet … the Dixie Belle Scarlet Brush.

More about this brush:

  • I love this large brush for large flat surfaces.

  • Gives a lot of coverage.

  • The bristles are dyed and baked which makes them softer and more absorbent giving you an ultra smooth finish.

It’s always nice to have an arsenal of brushes for your projects. But I wanted to show with this project that you CAN get it done with one single brush, so I used only one for this project.

Product #5: Antiqued Brass Knobs

What’s great about this paint is that it dries down quickly, so after a few coats and some time to dry, it was time to move to furniture makeover product #5 … the finishing touch! My Antiqued Brass Knobs are gorgeous and are perfect for this piece.
